Chitwan National Park
We spent a weekend in Sauraha, the gateway town to Chitwan National Park. Sticking with the budget options, we opted for a "jungle walk" through the park where we were skillfully guided into the path of angry wild elephants. Emilie was the only one of us to go bathing with the domesticated elephants, a relief from the incredible heat and humidity. As if we weren't already exhausted from our jungle experience we got to wait all morning for our bus to Kathmandu held up by a road block of angry villagers demanding compensation for local's death in a road accident the previous week. The park's scenery is beautiful, but the security measures are worrysome and June was clearly not the best time to be there as the weather was stiffling and the grasses were high (making wildlife spotting more difficult).
