Arezzo
We visited this Tuscan city for its fantastic medieval festival, Giostra del Saracino. Twice a year, Arezzo residents dress-up in full medieval get-up, march about the city and cheer on knights representing each of the city's quarters in a joust. We visited for summer "evening edition" of the festival, held the third weekend of June where the joust actually occurs after dark. We spent a full day in the city watching each of the festival's events, the battle proclamation, the blessing of the knights and finally the joust in the beautiful central plaza: Piazza Grande.
