Kalpa

Kalpa is a charming mountain village in the Kinnaur Valley. When the clouds lift, it offers splendid views of the Kinner Kailash mountain range, sacred to Buddhist and Hindus of the Kinnaur Valley. The Kalpa Temple, built in the traditional Kinnauri fashion, although crumbling, is an impressive site which you are likely to be able to visit without any crowds. We happened to be in Kalpa on the occasion of a village festival, which seemed to mainly involve its men, who drank, danced and sang with the village deity (a black hairy mound).
