Jasailmer

Jasailmer sits in the farwest of Rajasthan right in the middle of the Great Thar desert. As most Rajasthani towns it also has a fort characterized by its construction in golden colored sandstone. Unlike other forts in the province, it is a living one, with most inhabitants running a restaurant, hotel our souvenir shop. The city itself is known as the Golden City, its buildings matching the fort. People who come to Jasailmer inevitably take a camel safari. We visited the Khuri dunes, about 50km from the city, using a guide operating out of the small desert village of Barna.
