Rangamati
Rangamati, one of the Chittagong Hill Tracts main population centres, is spread over a series of islands, connected by causeways, on Kaptai Lake (actually the result of Bangladesh's only hydro-electric project in nearby Kaptai). Rangamati is a popular domestic tourist getaway, although we were not there at peak season, we certainly noticed the higher concentration of "tribal textile shops". It is also home to a large Chakma population, as well as the Chakma King whose palace is on a small island near the centre of the town. The main tourist activity is boating, but we we spent our time wandering the markets and the port areas, as well as Bana Vihara, the town's largest Buddhist temple.
